This is a corner crop from subs I shot when centered on NGC7331, so a bit of a freebie.  Best viewed at full resolution, these guys are tiny.  Shot with my 12" Newt, ASI2600MM and AP 1100GTO.

Roland, the tracking accuracy of the Mach 2 demonstrated by the this image is just nuts, with only a six point model and while significantly overloaded.  Amazing.

I wonder if AP would consider making a line of these adapters for their scopes.  Seems like there is a nice demand for adapting to M68 and M48 from both 3.27" or 2.7" thread.  I know I would be buying these and with PP costing $130 to $150 for these adapters (along with the 4 to 8 week lead time) it would be a welcome addition to the AP lineup.

With regard to Precise Parts prices. You have to realize that each part requires a top knotch machinist, his set up time (usually twice as long as it takes to machine a part) and the cleanup time. Then there's anodizing and shipping all the while somebody is keeping track of your part. If you just think of the price in terms of the time it takes to machine the part you're miss 2/3 rds of the total time involved to process your part and then the user of these parts expects perfection. -Best, Robert

Yeah I saw that and it looks really good.  I sort of dismissed it being a Photoshop plugin as I also use PI.  But I have a good image to test it on so I'll probably get the trial.

No guiding. I have guide corrections turned off but monitoring the tracking graph. I'm using a 6 point Dec arc model created with the keypad drift model routine. I created the model this afternoon while the sun was still up by putting a bright star on the crosshairs and measuring the drift according to the model routine. I used an Ha filter which darkens the sky but allows me to capture stars as faint as magnitude 5 on my crosshair in MaximDL.

It's super easy, and any fool can do it, especially an old fool like me. 6 points along the Dec arc of the object allows the model to create a smooth tracking rate compensation, which for this object varies from about 45 arcsec/hr to close to zero around the meridian.
In any case, the resultant drift is so low, less than 1 arc sec per hour, that I could take 1 hour exposures and have perfectly round stars.

I see a little Teddy bear off to the upper right. For the life of me I don't see an Elephant Trunk. Just looks like a giant flying monster to me.

Looks like the Mach 2 had no problem at all. Matches my experience with the big beefy scope package on it. It just happily plugs along delivering frame after frame of excellent seeing limited performance.

The next thing I'm thinking through testing will be a really long scope. I have a toa 150 but that will probably be too easy. Maybe a really long newt?

The R-H 12" F3.8 is faster. Has about the same resolution. 1160mm focal length versus 1600mm for the 10" Mak. I made the Mak for galaxy imaging.
